Rita T. Rogers, age 72, passed away on Wednesday morning, November 2, 2016 at Froedtert Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Wauwatosa following complications of a brain aneurysm.
Rita was born in Carrier Mills, IL on November 4, 1943, daughter of the late William and Mildred (nee: Duncan) Cofield. On August 7, 1976, Rita was united in marriage to Alfred G. Rogers. Together they owned and operated Al’s Vega Lounge and BBQ Time for over thirty years before retiring in 2004. Rita was a dedicated member of New Omega Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and travelling on road trips with her husband and family.
Rita will be dearly missed by her loving husband of forty years, Alfred; son, Alfred (Judy) Rogers Jr of Mt. Clemens, MI; granddaughter, Asha Nicole Rogers; stepdaughter, Nakisha Hiler of Racine; sister, Bertha “Renee” Howard of OK; brother, Leonard Rouse of Waukegan; brother-in- law, Dusty (Val) Walter of Racine; sister-in- law, Shirlie (Lewis) Starks of VA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Rita was also preceded in death by her brother, William Cofield and her sister Jeniece Portis.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at New Omega Baptist Church, 5731 Northwestern Avenue, on Saturday November 5, 2016, with Rev. Fred L. Richmond officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet from 10 to 11 a.m. the church on Saturday.
