Past and present students of Olympia Brown are invited to attend a farewell celebration for the current building and enjoy an evening browsing student artwork and listening to the music groups perform.
Farewell to O. Brown on the Lake/Fine Arts Night is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. May 24 at the school, 5915 Erie Street. Organizers posted an invitation to the event on Facebook.
Olympia Brown has been home to grades K thru 5 as well as the REAL School, a small charter middle and high school. Construction on a new building is underway next door on a vacant 20-acre parcel and is being paid for with funds from the $128 million referendum approved by voters in Nov. 2014.
O. Brown students are expected to attend class in the new facility this fall while the REAL School stays put until Fall 2017 when it moves to the Sturtevant SportsPlex after the Racine Unified Board of Education just approved a $5.2 million purchase offer for the complex. Plans there include renting out the athletic spaces to generate revenue while renovating much of it to serve as educational space for the charter middle and high schools.
Event organizers are interested in putting together photographs from the years. If anyone has anything they want to submit, they can send via email to email@example.com.
