Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan Thursday made it official; he endorsed presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Ryan made the announcement in his hometown newspaper, the Janesville Gazette. In his op-ed, the Speaker outlines all the reasons he wouldn’t outright endorse Trump, telling constituents that over the course of multiple conversations Ryan came to realize that Trump would turn Republican ideas into law.

“Through these conversations, I feel confident he would help us turn the ideas in this agenda into laws to help improve people’s lives. That’s why I’ll be voting for him this fall,” the column reads.

Ryan acknowledges the differences that remain between the two and says he won’t be afraid to speak his mind when those matters arise. But, in the end, he feels there’s more common ground than not.

“It’s not just a choice of two people, but of two visions for America. And House Republicans are helping shape that Republican vision by offering a bold policy agenda, by offering a better way ahead,” the piece concludes. “Donald Trump can help us make it a reality.”
