Julian Thomas Principal Demetri Beekman returns to Racine Unified after year’s absence, and he hopes his leadership there will make a difference in the lives of his students, their families and the community.
Beekman spent a year at Knapp Elementary as the assistant principal but couldn’t pass up the opportunity to help lead the program at St. Charles Academy in Milwaukee. Still, when he learned of the opening at Julian Thomas, Beekman said he jumped at the chance to return to Racine where he hopes to increase parental engagement so students continue to reach higher goals.
“This is a great opportunity to be part of a school and a district that is up-and-coming, especially in this historic neighborhood where Julian Thomas was so well-known,” Beekman said. “I want to do everything I can to improve education for our elementary school students.”
