Racine police say a 45-year-old man is facing a misdemeanor charge of lewd behavior after neighbors reported him repeatedly for walking around his northside neighborhood naked.
David Stelmack, of Racine, was charged Tuesday in Racine County Circuit Court with one misdemeanor count of lewd and lascivious behavior. If convicted, he could face up to 90 days in jail and/or up to $1,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, officers were called at 6:54 p.m. Monday to the 3600 block of St. Clair for a report of a naked man walking around drunk. When police arrived, neighbors said Stelmack was walking around drunk, naked and causing problems. Officers had been called to the same address earlier in the day for a similar incident.
Police say they located Stelmack laying on a lawn chair in the back yard of a home, and he was only wearing a zip-up hoodie and nothing else despite a pair of sweatpants being on the ground next to him. He told officers he had a drinking problem and that his mother kicked him out of the house for being too drunk. Police noted in their report that Stelmack’s speech was slow and slurred and his movements were also slow and uncoordinated.
After getting the defendant to pull on the sweatpants, officers placed Stelmack in custody and transported him to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary’s for medical clearance before taking him to the Racine County Jail.
As of Monday night, Stelmack remained in jail on a $200 signature bond. He was ordered during his initial appearance not to consume or possess any alcohol and to submit to random tests. His next court date is Aug. 28.
