13-year-old girl killed after a SUV struck her while jogging on Middle Road was Sara Dresen, according to Lt. Gary Larsen, of the Caledonia Police Department.

She was supposed to start her 8th grade year at St. Catherine’s Middle School this fall.

An avid athlete, Dresen was jogging southbound at about 5:50 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9 on the west side of Middle Road near 5 1/2 Mile Road when a 34-year-old Caledonia man driving a SUV crossed the center line, struck Sara, and hit a utility pole. Dresen died at the scene.

Her family, who lived nearby, was able to say their goodbyes to her inside the ambulance, witnesses said.

The man, whose name is not being released until charges have been issued, has been arrested for suspicion of being under the influence, Larsen said.

A blood draw was done at the hospital and charges are pending the results of the toxicology report. The man suffered non-life threatening injuries and remains in custody at the Racine County Jail.
