Racine police say a 22-year-old woman with previous theft charges is facing jail time after she stole over $300 worth of goods from ShopKo.

Brianna Clausen, of Racine, was charged Thursday in Racine County Circuit Court with one misdemeanor count each of retail theft and bail jumping. If convicted, she faces up to 18 months in prison and/or up to $20,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, store security Wednesday at ShopKo witnessed a woman – later identified as Clausen – walk into the store with a large purse. They watched her walk into the jewelry department and remove several items from packing before concealing the merchandise in her bag. Clausen continued through the store, taking a variety of things from departments like health/beauty, cosmetics and the pharmacy area before attempting to leave.

Police say when they arrived, Clausen was in the security office and admitted to putting the goods in her purse but said she meant to pay for them. All told, the merchandise Clausen attempted to steal totaled $319.62.

Clausen remains in the Racine County Jail on a $2,000 cash bond. She will next be in court Nov. 5 for a pre-trial conference.
