Caledonia police say a 26-year-old woman stole checks from relatives and cashed them to feed her heroin habit.

Abby Wallig, of Caledonia, was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with one felony count of forgery and one misdemeanor count of theft and two felony counts of bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to 18-3/4 years in prison and/or up to $40,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, a relative of Wallig’s visited the Caledonia Police Department Saturday to report that two checks had been taken and cashed without their consent. They suspected Wallig, but when they questioned her, she denied having done it before finally admitting that she’d stolen the checks and cashed them.

Police say that when they questioned Wallig, she admitted that she took the checks and cashed them for a total of $375.00 to buy heroin.

Wallig was assigned a $500 cash bond Monday at her initial appearance. She will next be in court Nov. 1 for her preliminary hearing.
