MOUNT PLEASANT, WI – Qolsys Inc., which makes security and smarthome products, said it plans to expand a partnership with Foxconn Industrial Internet (Fii) to start assembling IQ Panels at a facility in the Wisconn Valley Science and Technology Park.
Foxconn Technology Group could be eligible for as much as $3 billion in state tax incentives for building its $10-billion manufacturing campus in Mount Pleasant and creating as many as 13,000 jobs. Other local incentives for the project and infrastructure improvements could amount to another $1.5 billion.
“Foxconn Industrial Internet enables Qolsys to deliver best-in-class manufacturing technology enabling our high quality and leading market position,” says Qolsys CFO Ken McMaster. “US-based manufacturing provides additional logistics benefits reducing lead times for faster customer deliveries and further expands our global footprint. In addition to our Juarez Facility which opened late last year, this new facility gives us greater flexibility to serve our customers in North America.”
Fii USA President Foo-Ming Fu said the Fii team will help Qolsys expand its platform by combining its smart manufacturing capabilities — such as artificial intelligence and industrial internet of things — with their manufacturing and supply chain experience.
“Our team is excited for the continued partnership with Qolsys and look forward to the opportunity to support their aggressive growth plans,” Foo-Ming Fu stated in a press release.
Qolsys makes residential and commercial security and home automation products, which it distributes to dealers in North America.
The Qolsys announcement comes on the heals of FII wanting to build a 261,000-square-foot Smart Manufacturing Center (SMC) and a High-Performance Computing Data Center (HPCDC) manufacturing facility.
“The SMC will be a high-mix, low-to-medium volume production facility that primarily manufactures components for server racks. In addition, Foxconn continues to evaluate additional design options for a HPCDC that meets the needs of the company, as well as the needs of business, academic and community partners.”
Officials with the Mount Pleasant Plan Commission gave a preliminary nod to the Smart Manufacturing Center at a meeting held this week. Construction is expected to begin in mid-October.
The project is in addition to the one-million-square-foot Gen6 manufacturing, which is slated to be completed in late 2020.
