The Washington Park Panthers Varsity Cheer Team is going to the state competition for the first time in about six years.

During the WACPC (Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom Coaches) 2014 regional competition Saturday, the Panthers placed third behind Kenosha Indian Trail and Muskego high schools. The top three advance to state.

The state competition is Feb. 22 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

Racine Case, Racine Horlick, Racine Lutheran and St. Catherine’s also competed Saturday. Lutheran and St. Cat’s both placed high enough in their division to go to the state meet. Horlick’s cheer dance team will also be in Madison next week.
