Lt. Al Days, of the Racine Police Department, has been hospitalized after he was involved in a crash that happened at 3:10 p.m. Thursday at 13th St. and Washington Avenue.

Days, who is the public information officer for the department, was stopped at a red light when another car traveling westbound crashed into the back of the car he was driving, according to a press release by the Racine Police Chief Art Howell.

The driver of the vehicle, which crashed into Days’ personal vehicle, fled the scene on foot. Days chased after the man and prevented him from leaving the scene by detaining him until other officers arrived.
