Racine police Tuesday released the dashcam video of a traffic stop during which the driver accused an officer of racially profiling him.
Oscar James Wells, 21, of Racine, was pulled over on June 24 because he didn’t have a properly attached front license plate. In a video he posted of the last few minutes of the stop, Wells accuses the officer – who is white and female – of stopping him because he’s African American. He also says she treated him unfairly and with bias.
An investigation by the Office of Professional Standards – requested by Wells – cleared the officer of any wrong-doing, and RAPD Chief Art Howell on Monday promised to release the full video of the traffic stop as recorded by the squad car’s dashboard camera.
