Racine County Eye and the Racine Taxpayers Association are hosting two Racine Unified candidate forums next month ahead of the April 5 general election.
Because the RUSD community has been divided into nine statutorily required districts, the forums will be divided into two events for contested races. The first is scheduled for March 22 in the Michigan Room in the Racine building at Gateway Technical College for districts #3, #6, #7 and #8.
The second will take place March 29 at Mount Pleasant Village Hall for districts #2, #4, #5 and #9.
District #1 is made up of the Village of Sturtevant, parts of the City of Racine and portions of Mount Pleasant. Sturtevant resident Michelle Duchow is the only candidate running for that seat.
In three Racine Unified races, current board members will face off against each other; three races feature an incumbent versus a newcomer; and two races are comprised of two newcomers altogether.
Both events will run for 90 minutes; from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and the format will be the same for each; the RTA and RCE will provide one or two questions, and the rest of the topics will come directly from community residents.

District 6: John Heckenlively & Jim Venturini
District 7: Don Nielsen (i) & Brian O’Connell
