Journalism. We believe it should help you live a better life.

That’s why we spend a lot less time on publishing mug shots and a lot more time helping you understand the employment market, figure out how to spend more time with friends and family with our events calendar, and what you can do to help businesses that have opened up. Make no mistake…we aren’t shy. We tackle the big stuff, like COVID and issues around race.

And if you believe in the value of journalism — that it should help, not exploit — please consider becoming a paid member of the Racine County Eye today. We can’t do this work without you.

West Racine is getting a little re-purposing! Refined Salvage and Pallet Designs, LLC opened their doors last week at 1137 Hayes Avenue.

Inside you’ll find home decor, furniture, lighting and more – all re-purposed designs from three local artists. Co-owners Jill Boyd, Kathy Ellingson and Tara Storebeck each bring a unique talent. Everything is made from re-purposed materials and solid wood.

Storebeck says they’ve been busy with steady traffic since opening.

Walking around, you’ll find fun, whimsy and talent in every nook and cranny. They also do custom creations.

“It’s not just for women, there are plenty of ‘man cave’ items as well.” says Boyd. “At times, you’ll be greeted by Roxie the Whippet. Just don’t tell her you’re there to shop. She believes you’re there to see her.”

They’re open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday; 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and evenings by appointment.
