Lovers of Popeye’s Louisiana-style fried chicken will get their first taste of the new location at Regency Mall Monday.

The new restaurant in front of Regency Mall will have a ribbon cutting Friday but will officially open its doors at 10 a.m. Monday, according to a post on the What’s Happening Racine? Facebook page.

The new location, 5550 Durand Avenue, is a second Racine location and was built on the site of the former White Castle. That building has also been a Steak ‘n Shake. Popeye’s at 920 Washington Avenue will remain open.

An employee posted that workers are looking forward to welcoming big crowds and to breaking what many have called a curse at that location because so many restaurants have come and gone over the years.

“We plan on staying there a while and breaking the curse,” Lena Martinez wrote. “I hope to see everyone out at 10 a.m. Monday!”
