Nonprofit Mission and Vision Statements
River Bend exists to provide environmental education and outdoor recreation for the children, family, and adults of Racine and southeastern Wisconsin.
Please provide a paragraph or so about what your organization does in the community. Include any recent achievements, projects, and goals.
River Bend Nature Center focuses on providing environmental education and outdoor recreation to children, families, and individuals across southeastern Wisconsin. Each year, River Bend engages more than 5,000 children–65% of which come from low-income families—in environmental education and outdoor recreation activities. The Tiny Tots program offers parents a way to introduce their toddler to nature through fun, hands-on activities, and hikes. Families and individuals can also participate in outdoor recreation classes led by certified instructors designed to teach skills in kayaking, canoeing, archery, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. River Bend also hosts family-friendly events throughout the year such as Full Moon Paddles in the summer, Gifts of Nature and Candlelight Hikes/Chili Winter Evenings in the winter, and Sunday morning pancake breakfasts in March. Throughout the summer, River Bend is home to nine weeks of summer day camps for children ages 4-13 years old, offering a safe, fun place to explore nature, form lasting friendships, and learn new skills such as archery and canoeing. For many children, summer camp would be financially out of reach if it weren’t for scholarships created through generous charitable donations. River Bend also strives to be environmentally conscious through sustainable use practices and by working to restore nearly 80 acres of hardwood forest and prairie, watershed and riverine area with the help of Habitat Healers and Water Action Volunteers.
What would you like the general public to know about your organization and ways they can help/support you?
Our mission is supported by a dedicated group of volunteers, without which we wouldn’t exist as an organization! We always welcome people looking to share their skills and gifts with us to help further our mission and get more people outside and learning about the natural world around them! As we are a non-profit organization, donations are always appreciated!
Love what we do?
In addition to our education features, we’ll be kicking off a series of stories highlighting how parents, students, and educators are adapting to the impact of COVID-19 on education. If this is important to you, please consider donating to our education reporting fund. https://business.facebook.com/donate/1846323118855149/3262802717172659/
