A registered nurse at the Ellsworth Correctional facility in Union Grove faces three felony charges of second-degree sexual assault by correctional staff after an investigation earlier this year.

Each of the felonies filed Tuesday against Jeremy J. Deppisch, 47, carries a fine of $100,000 and 40 years in prison.

Deppisch also was charged with a felony count of misconduct/fraud, which carries a fine of $10,000 and three years, six months in prison, and misdemeanor counts of theft and obtaining prescription drugs by making a false statement, which carries a total fine of $10,500 and one year, three months in county jail.

The defendant made his initial appearance in Racine County Circuit Court on Tuesday and was released on a $10,000 signature bond. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing Aug. 8.

According to the criminal complaint:

An investigator with the Racine County Sheriff’s Department spoke with a female inmate, who stated on Jan. 9, she was at the facility’s Health Services Unit for treatment of cat scratches. While there, she stated she performed a sex act with Deppisch. Three days later, she again performed a sex act, and again Jan. 16.

The inmate stated that each encounter happened in a treatment room, and that on least one occasion, there was another nurse in the unit. The inmate told the investigator that she would sign out to go to the medical unit and be called down by Deppisch, or go during meal times.
