Firefighters from South Shore Fire Department are starring in a new video from InSinkErator to test the mettle of the company’s new Excel disposer.

With three shifts of firefighter/paramedics constantly cycling through the station, leftovers stack up inside the three refrigerators – one for each shift.

Doug, from InSinkErator, sits down and eats breakfast with the B-Shift crew and then helps clean up afterward, including grinding up some smelly and slimey leftovers with Lt. Edward Lockhart.

“It was a great experience,” he told Racine County Eye.

Featured in the video are Battalion Chief John Radewan (white shirt at table); Med 8’s crew: Lt. Perry Smith, FF Travis Carlson, and FF Alex Szewczyk, who all also paramedics. Engine 8’s crew: Lockhart, Driver/Operator Steve Kempf, and FF Mitch Severson.

InSinkErator terms it a grind challenge, saying Station 8 had “a big food waste challenge and not enough fire power in the kitchen.”
