A Speedway employee who was robbed at gunpoint in Mount Pleasant on Tuesday morning has been fired.

Bobby Wilkerson told FOX 6 Newshe was fired because he had too much money in his drawer.

He said he adhered to company procedure regarding robberies; namely, following the demands of the robbers and emptying his drawer.

But, on Wednesday morning, Wilkerson said he was called into work and fired.

“That’s when the manager told me they were letting me go,” he is quoted as saying.

FOX 6 reached out to Speedway, and company spokesperson Angela Graves told the station she couldn’t comment beyond saying the safety of employees and customers is the company’s “number one focus.”
