Fans of Steak ‘n Shake rejoice; the restaurant is returning to Racine.
The eatery is part of a proposed gas station from Twins Properties, LLC, owners of the Twins Food Marts on 16th Street and Douglas Avenue, a story in The Journal Times reads, that was approved April 7 by the Downtown Area Design Review Committee.
The project is designed for 930 Washington Avenue, site of the former Total 24 gas station and next door to Popeye’s Chicken. All together, the new building will measure some 4,100 square feet and is being designed by Racine-based ARC Architectural Group, the same firm that helped outfit Pepi’s on 6th Street.
While there are still some permit hurdles to clear, owner Phesal Ckadan hopes to have the gas station and Steak ‘n Shake up and running by October, the story continues.
Steak ‘n Shake was located in the 5500 block of Durand Avenue in front of Regency Mall. It was open from 1999 until 2004.
