A couple was arrested Saturday morning following a traffic violation where the Mount Pleasant Police Officer learned the car they were driving was stolen.

Marcus Deshawn Montgomery, 24, of Mt Pleasant, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, carrying a concealed weapon, possessing marijuana, and operating with a suspended license.

Areol Brandian Strong, 27, of Racine, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, passenger, and two counts of bail jumping.

According to a press release by the Mount Pleasant Police Department:

At 3:31 a.m. the officer conducted a traffic stop at the Knights Inn hotel. When the officer ran the license plate, it came up stolen out of the Village of Altoona. Montgomery was arrested. When searched, police found a loaded Hi-Point .380 handgun in his pocket and marijuana.

Montgomery stole the car. But he gave the car to Strong, who was the passenger.

This matter remains under Investigation by Mount Pleasant Police.
