… we have a small favor to ask. Thousands of people have placed their trust in the Racine County Eye’s high-impact journalism because we focus on solutions-based journalism.
With no shareholders or billionaire owners, we can provide trustworthy journalism that focuses on helping readers.
Unlike many others, Racine County Eye’s journalism is available for everyone to read, regardless of what they can afford to pay. We do this because we believe in information equality. Greater numbers of people can keep track of events, understand their impact on people and communities, and become inspired to take meaningful action.
If there were ever a time to join us, it is now. Every contribution, however big or small, powers our journalism and sustains our future. Support the Racine County Eye from as little as $5 – it only takes a minute. Thank you.
Sturtevant residents are invited to review the proposed 2015 budget and attend the statutorily required public hearing Nov. 5.
Copies of the budget can be found on the village’s website and at Village Hall.
The 2015 budget includes a two-cent increase in the mill rate; from $8.57 to $8.59 per $1,000 of assessed value.
Homeowners with a house valued at $100,000 in 2014 paid $1,285.95 to the village. In 2015, that same property owner will pay $1,288.95, an increase of $3.
Formulas for new growth and debt service allow board members to raise the levy by 3 percent, but the increase only covers the rising cost of doing business.
“We won’t be purchasing any new equipment or vehicles for either Public Works or the police department,” Administrator Mary Cole told the board earlier this month. “We are actually below service levels from 10 years ago.”
The public hearing will be part of the regular board meeting that begins at 6 p.m. at Village Hall, 2801 89th Street. Call (262) 664-7800.
Trustees will vote on a final version of the budget Nov. 18.
