Mount Pleasant police say a 34-year-old Racine man was found hiding in a relative’s home after fleeing from police to avoid arrest for stealing from Kohl’s and threatening store employees with a gun.
Officers were called at 2:21 p.m. to Kohl’s, 5500 Washington Avenue, for a report of shoplifting. When police arrived, store employees said the man stole some merchandise and told security he had a gun when they tried to stop him from leaving the store. He was seen getting into a black Suburban and leaving the area.
Police spotted the truck in the 1900 block of West Lawn and initiated a traffic stop, but the man fled on foot. A perimeter was quickly established with officers from Racine – including a K9 unit – assisting with the operation.
The man was found a short time later hiding nearby in a relative’s house and taken into custody without further incident.
He was transported to the Racine County Jail on pending charges of robbery and recklessly endangering safety. The man was also cited for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
