A handful of teenagers were arrested Monday after Racine police say they ripped the cell phone lanyard off another boy and took off with his phone.
Anton House, 17, was charged Tuesday in Racine County Circuit Court with one felony count of robbery by use of force as a party to a crime. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years and/or up to $50,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, House and two other teens approached another boy who told police one of the teens wanted to fight. The boy said he was wearing his cell phone in a lanyard around his neck, and another boy said, “That’s our (expletive),” before snatching the lanyard from the victim’s neck and running away.
Officers say they found the phone at a home where all three teenagers were also located. Police returned the phone to the boy, and took the teens into custody. All three denied knowing anything about a cell phone.
Two of the teens are juveniles; one was released to the custody of his parent/guardian and the other was booked into Racine Youth Correctional, the complaint reads. House was transported to the Racine County Jail where he remains on a $500 cash bond. He will next be in court Nov. 10 for his preliminary hearing.
