Whenever life doesn’t always go as planned (and it really never does), I’ve always been a glass half-full kind of girl and I often pull out a sheet of paper to jot down a gratitude list.

It’s a habit that I developed quite a few years ago when I found myself a single mom living here in Racine with all of my family in Ohio. For months my dad would call me and ask me when I was coming home and at the time I had to explain to him… my home is here.

That was a scary place because at the time, my world consisted of a five-year-old, finishing up my bachelor’s degree in journalism, and having a full-time job. So I started making these lists daily, then started my to do lists to help me focus my energy on things that reflected my values.

For me Thanksgiving is a great time to revisit those list, but it’s always been a useful tool to keep myself anchored in the present rather than stressing over what isn’t happening. So I’m curious, what are you thankful for as you prepare for Thanksgiving?
