Knapp Manufacturing Inc., which makes medical and consumer graded plastics, plans to expand its location at 5102 Douglas Avenue in Caledonia.

In 5-0 vote, the village of Caledonia board approved a conditional use permit at its meeting held Monday. Village president Bob Bradley and Lee Wishau were not at the meeting.

JDJ Real Estate LLC owns the building and Knapp Manufacturing rents the building from JDJ Real Estate. Plans include having Bukacek Construction build a 10,000 square-foot addition to the 43,000 square-foot facility, which sits on 5.85 acres. The company has 45 to 50 full-time employees and 45 to 50 contract employees.

Dave Horvath, vice president of Knapp Manufacturing, said the business needs more space and he expects that the business will add more staff.

“When we started we did mostly assembly and some warehousing,” Horvath said. “Now we do mostly warehousing and some assembly.”

The addition will be used as a warehouse, production area and support office. Construction is expected to begin in May and be completed by October.
