Surrounded by his loving family, Theodore “Ted” J. Pier, 92, passed away on Sunday at his residence. He was born in Racine on August 30, 1925, and was the son of the late Lawrence and Marie (Nee: Entrop) Pier.
Ted proudly served in the United States Army, 343d Infantry Regiment, 86th Division and was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant. He received the Bronze Star for bravery. Furthering his education he received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Marquette University. On February 4, 1961 he was united in marriage to Joan M. Veltus. Ted was employed as a Certified Public Accountant by Johnson and Henrickson Construction Co. for thirty years, retiring. He was a longtime member of St. Edward Catholic Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post 310, Knights of Columbus and the United Commercial Travelers. Ted was devoted to his family and cherished time spent with them.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Joan; his children, Timothy (Pegi) Pier, Thomas Pier (Sheila Pinkalla), all of Racine; grandchildren, Jason, Amanda, Rudi, Alex and 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, William (Beverley) Pier, James Pier, sister Joan (Dave Petersen) all of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Father Allen Bratkowski officiating. Entombment with Full Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the Maresh-Meredith & Acklam funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. Memorials can be made to Knights of Columbus Council 697 or American Legion Post 310.
