A 20-year-old Racine woman faces felony charges of making a threat to a law enforcement officer and making a threat to a family member of a law enforcement officer after an incident July 11.

Each felony filed against Destiny E. Payne carries a fine of $10,000 and six years in prison.

Court records indicate that Payne was in Racine County Circuit Court on Friday, but that appearance was adjourned because she became unruly. Payne was scheduled to return to court Monday afternoon.

According to the criminal complaint:

A Racine Police Department officer stated that he was threatened by the defendant July 9. Payne allegedly threatened to kill the officer and his wife when she is released from jail. The officer stated he fears for his safety and for the safety of his family because the defendant has a history of mental illness.

The officer stated he observed the defendant, who he recognized from previous dealings, in a holding cell. When she recognized him, she immediately jumped up and began to curse at him. As the officer walked past her, she said, “When I get out on the 5th, I am going to murder you and your wife.” The officer said he felt the threat had gone too far because Payne knew his wife’s name.
