A 14-year-old girl was turned over to the Racine County Juvenile Detention Center after she made threats against Union Grove High School on a popular social media site.
The threat was later determined to be a hoax and was deemed not credible by law enforcement officials, according to a press release by the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.
The department received an anonymous tip from Crime Stoppers of Racine County that a threat had been made against Union Grove High School. Officials investigated and found an Instagram post from Monday that showed a person wearing a clown mask. On the photo was a statement that “no one should attend school tomorrow because of a school shooter,” the press release reads.
The original post did not contain the threat. Investigators learned that the 14-year-old girl — who attends Union Grove High School — edited the photo by adding the threatening statement. The girl cooperated with the investigators and admitted to adding the threats.
The investigation is ongoing.
