Mount Pleasant trustees Monday will go into closed session to talk about the employment of Finance Director Terri Gayhart.
Sources close to the village say Gayhart is being terminated and that her last day of work at the village was earlier this week, and officials are crafting a separation agreement.
When we submitted an open records request for the separation agreement to Village Administrator Kurt Wahlen and Village Clerk Stephanie Kohlhagen, Wahlen replied there wasn’t a separation agreement and that Gayhart is still on Mount Pleasant’s payroll.
We asked for clarification, “Does this mean Ms. Gayhart is reporting to work in the office and/or is a separation agreement in the works?”
“This is a personnel matter and I am unable to comment further,” Wahlen wrote back in an email.
If Gayhart is being terminated, as a department head, her separation from the village must be approved by a majority of the village board. Trustees in April voted to give department heads six months of severance pay if they are dismissed without cause.
Village President Jerry Garski said he had no comment until after the board meeting Monday. We tried to find a phone number for Gayhart to get comment from her, but her number isn’t listed
