There is good news and bad in the new unemployment numbers released by the state this week; unemployment is down in the City of Racine but still highest in the state.
Numbers in the city are down from 8.9 in June 2014 to 7.6 in June 2015. The state average is 4.6 percent, lower than the national average of 5.3 percent. DWD reports that unemployment is down in every one of the state’s 72 counties.
Unemployment is also down in Caledonia and Mount Pleasant; from 5.7 to 5.2 and from 6.1 to 5.7, respectively.
The department does not separately track unemployment for Sturtevant.
Racine County’s unemployment rate fell from 6.9 percent in June 2014 to 6.1 percent in June 2015.
Other take-aways from the DWD monthly report include:
- The number of new businesses went up by 3.4 percent in the first half of 2015; 21,379 from 20,675 during the same time period in 2014.
- Wisconsin is ranked 12th by Chief Executive Magazine as a best state for business; up from a rank of 14th in 2014
