UPDATE 5:54 p.m.: Officials with the Racine County Sheriff’s Department have identified the names of the couple killed in the crash as Phillip Burmeister, 65, and Nadine Burmeister, 62.
The couple was traveling westbound on County Trunk Highway C and stopped at 59th Drive in a three-wheeled motorcycle waiting for traffic to clear when they attempted to make a lefthand turn, according to a press release by the Racine County Sheriff’s Department.
A vehicle traveling in the same direction rear-ended the motorcycle, which resulted in the couple both being ejected into the eastbound lane. They were struck and killed by an eastbound car.
“The operator and passenger sustained massive trauma. The operator and passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene. The operator that struck the trike was cited for inattentive driving,” the press release reads.
ORIGINAL STORY: Yorkville – Two people were killed after being involved in a three-car crash that happened at 4:50 p.m. Friday on County Trunk Highway C at 59th Drive.
A man and woman – both in their 60s – were killed. Their names have not been released pending notification of family.
This accident remains under investigation. The Racine County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Union Grove / Yorkville Fire and Rescue.
