Attention all Pokemon Go trainers: the University of Wisconsin-Parkside is hosting a meet-up and scavenger hunt August 1 on the school campus.

UWP hosts six Pokestops and two Pokegyms, and there are more of both at Petrifying Springs. The campus will also have two recharging stations for players and devices featuring water and lemonade.

Pokemon Go is an augmented reality game people play collectively, and it’s currently the most popular app downloaded for both Android and iPhone users. As players walk around in the real world, random Pokemon characters can be caught by aiming the cellphone toward the character by hitting it with a virtual ball.

Trainers/players need to register between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m., and the game is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Those who complete a registration card will be entered into a drawing. All players will be divided into “three traditional Pokemon teams – Mystic – blue; Instinct – yellow; and Valor – red. Team prizes will be awarded.

Players can also win prizes by being one of the first 10 who take selfies at the six Pokestops and post them to Twitter by tagging @UWParkside.

Players under 18 should plan to participate with a chaperone. Call Karen Wislocky at 262-595-2085 for more information.
