Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin is raising money to build tiny houses for homeless veterans, and one is already underway.

Tiny homes are catching on in communities across the country as a viable solution for homelessness in general and for homeless veterans in particular. Veterans Outreach thinks tiny homes could work here, too, and they’re using to raise $15,000 to build a tiny home for an area veteran who needs housing.

“With your help we will begin to construct tiny homes for veterans. Though they will be small they will be a place for a veteran who previously slept on the streets to call home,” their entry reads.

Veterans Outreach feeds hundreds of area veterans each year through their food pantry and helps vets furnish and fill their homes once they find housing.

The first home build got underway Saturday, and Outreach representatives say they’re putting this first one up to show supporters and the greater community the details of a tiny house to spark the necessary interest to keep building.
