Racine police confirmed Wednesday night that the woman killed Sunday is Melissa Hansen, 42, of Racine.

Lt. Al Days confirmed via email with Racine County Eye that Hansen is the victim’s name.

Hansen was killed Sunday in an apartment in the 4000 block of Erie. Police do not have a suspect in custody at this time.

Hansen leaves behind three children.

In her obituary at Marsh, Meredith and Acklam Funeral Home, she is remembered as intelligent and talented with a big heart.

“An intelligent young woman, Melissa will be fondly remembered for her huge heart and willingness to help others in need. She will be dearly missed,” it reads.

Visitation with Hansen’s family is scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday.

The family asks for donations to college funds for Hansen’s children in lieu of flowers.
