The dry districts in our community are done for, and West Racine is getting in on the bar scene.
John Dunk, owner oof John’s Dock, recently closed his bar after nine years of business. Now he is seeking a new location in West Racine. His new bar has been recommended to christen the area with its first bar in 98 years. Dunk was forced to close John’s Dock because the landlords had other ideas for the property.
On Monday, the City of Racine’s Public Safety and Licensing Committee put forth their recommendation to allow Dunk to transfer his liquor license from his closed business at 303 Dodge Street to 3207 Washington Avenue in West Racine.
Dunk intends on renovating the building as it does not have a kitchen. Dunk told The Journal Times that if the license is approved, he plans on applying for a commercial white box grant for the renovation.
The Public Safety and Licensing Committee’s recommendation on the license transfer is scheduled to go to the City Council on Tuesday for consideration.
