About 250 runners are expected to run in the Wisconsin Senior Olympics 5K run/walk on Aug. 13 at Pershing Park.

At a meeting held Monday, the Racine Common Council approved a request by Real Racine asking that they be allowed to close some of the streets.

The route includes: Main St. from State to Dodge streets, Pershing Park Drive from 6th St. to 11th St, 11th St. from Main to Pershing Park Drive, Sixth St. from Lake Avenue to Pershing Park Drive; 2nd Street from Main Street to Wisconsin Avenue, and 10th Street from Lake Avenue to Main Street.

Kari Dawson, events director for Real Racine, said the city won the bid over Kenosha.

The run is set to start at 7 a.m. and is not expected to take long, she said.
