Congratulations to Horlick High School teacher Kate Possing for being named WISN 12 News’ Teacher of the Month for January 2014.

Possing was nominated by a student who has been inspired to not just up her game at school but also to focus on a future as a teacher.

Meteorologist Sally Severson surprised Possing in her classroom with the announcement earlier this month.

Possing is a veteran teacher with over 20 years of experience in special education classrooms and with biology and history classes, too. She told Severson she has a love for learning, and just standing in front of a classroom isn’t enough for her.

“I love learning so I thought everyone else will love learning,” she said.

It’s not enough to just learn the names of her students, Possing said she wants to make a connection. Clearly she made such a connection with the student – DJ, a junior – who nominated her.

“I want to go into what she is doing,” DJ said. “I want to go into special ed and work with the less fortunate.”
