A Racine woman has been charged with hit-and-run causing injury for a February crash that seriously injured a 2 1/2-year-old child.
On Feb. 2, Mount Pleasant police responded to the intersection of Durand Avenue and Wood Road for an accident with injuries. When they arrived, they found two women and two small children being treated by rescue personnel. They said whoever hit them left the scene.
The 2 1/2-year-old child had serious head injuries and was taken to Children’s Hospital in Wauwatosa for treatment. The other child, who was 1 ½ years old, was treated and released.
Witnesses described the vehicle which struck the car the women were in, and police were able to find it. The silver truck had heavy front end damage, and the driver, Lisa Lackas, 47, said she did not know what to do and panicked.
Her husband told police Lackas fled because the truck was not insured.
She is out of custody on a $10,000 signature bond, and is due in court next month for a preliminary hearing on the charges.
