One person is dead after a house fire late Friday night in Mount Pleasant, and the cause is under investigation.
Mount Pleasant police confirmed Saturday afternoon that Lori L. Liesner, 49, was the victim they removed Friday night from the burning home at 6618 Durand Avenue. Her cause of death is pending an autopsy.
Crews from South Shore Fire Department responded at 11:04 p.m. Friday to reports of a house on fire at 6618 Durand Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke and fire visible from several windows and immediately started an internal attack.
A few minutes later, they removed the body of a woman. Her name was immediately released so authorities could notify her family. The Journal Times is reporting Liesner lived alone and has rented the home for the last 15 years.
The home was a single-story, single family residence and no other occupants were found. The fire caused $70,000 in damage and made the house uninhabitable.
Durand Avenue was shut down in both directions for several hours
SSFD was assisted on scene by firefighters from Caledonia, Racine, Raymond and Somers fire departments while crews from Kansasville, Oak Creek and Somers staffed Station 9 in Sturtevant to handle any additional calls that may have come in.
Officers from Mount Pleasant were assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol and Racine County Sheriff’s Department.
