UPDATE July 27: Mount Pleasant Police are ruling the death of a 17-year-old Kenosha girl found dead near a ditch on Monday a homicide.

Olivia Mackay was reported missing and found dead on Monday night. Initially her death was ruled as suspicious, but after officials performed an autopsy they determined the cause of her death, according to a press release by the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

Investigators, however, are not releasing the details about how the girl died.

According to the press release:

“At this time, we are not releasing the cause of death because of the ongoing investigation, and the potential for further details to jeopardize the investigation.  The Mount Pleasant Police Department detectives are continuing to work closely with the Kenosha Police Department to obtain further information and bring the responsible party(s) to justice.”

UPDATE July 26: Investigators from Village of Mount Pleasant Police Department have identified the girl found dead on Monday as being Olivia Mackay, 17, of Kenosha.

Olivia was reported missing by the Kenosha Police Department on Monday after she did not show up for work, according to a press release by the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

“Once her family was made aware of this, they began to look for her,” the press release reads.  “The Kenosha Police Department worked with the Mount Pleasant Police Department and inquired about the identity of the deceased female that was found on Monday, July 24.”

Officials have informed Mackay’s family of the positive identification. Investigators will continue to investigate the case as the circumstances surrounding her death “remain suspicious in nature,” police say.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Mount Pleasant Police Department is conducting a death investigation after a woman was found dead at 1 p.m. Monday.

Mount Pleasant Police Chief Timothy Zarzecki told the Racine County Eye that the body of a woman was found near the ditch line on Louis Sorenson Road between West Road and the East Frontage Road.

“We’re still very much in the preliminary stages of this, but it is considered a suspicious death investigation at this time,” Zarzecki said.

Someone called 911 saying that they found the body of a deceased woman. At this time, it is not known how the woman died. The Mount Pleasant Police Department is working with the State Crime Lab, the Division of Criminal Investigations and the Racine County Medical Examiner’s Office. The woman’s identity is not known at this time, but investigators are working on finding the woman’s identity.

“We also still need to notify the deceased woman’s relatives,” Zarzecki said.
