Racine County Sheriff’s deputies say a 36-year-old Milwaukee woman was intoxicated Saturday when she crashed head-on into a semi on the Highway 11 interchange.
Officers were called at 6:15 a.m. Saturday to the northbound on-ramp of I-94 at Highway 11 for a report of an SUV that struck a semi head-on after crossing the median. When officers arrived on scene, they found the female driver of the SUV seriously injured and trapped inside her vehicle.
Medical personnel extricated the woman and transported her to Wheaton Franciscan St. Mary’s with serious injuries. The male driver of the semi initially refused medical treatment but was then treated and released for a minor injury.
Prior to the accident, dispatch reported that several callers reported a reckless driver, and deputies determined the injured woman was that driver. She was cited for several offenses, including:
- First drunk driving offense
- Driving without a license
- Driving with open intoxicants in the car
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
The Highway 11 interchange was re-opened around 10:30 a.m.
