Mount Pleasant police say a 25-year-old woman from Wales wanted in Waukesha County to face a felony homicide charge was found Tuesday in Racine County.
Stephanie Chapman was charged Wednesday in Racine County Circuit Court with two counts of felony bail
According to the criminal complaint, police received an anonymous tip Tuesday that Chapman was at a home in the 2800 block of Oregon Avenue, and she was wanted in Waukesha County on felony charges of 1st degree reckless homicide/deliver drugs, manufacture/deliver schedule I, II narcotics and bail jumping. When officers arrived, they saw a female sitting out front smoking a cigarette matching the physical description they’d been given of Chapman.
Police say they pulled in front of the home and saw the woman walking toward the back yard. When officers went around back, they asked the woman if she knew Stephanie, but she said she did not. The woman – later identified as Chapman – also refused to give her name or produce an ID for police when asked. Dispatch advised police that a photo of Chapman was being forwarded to them.
Chapman did attempt to flee, but officers caught her quickly and took her into custody, the complaint reads. She was transported to Racine County Jail without further incident and remains there on a $500 cash bond.
Chapman and Lacey Nissen were accused last December for supplying Samantha Medinger, 24, of Oconomowoc, with prescription drugs that Medinger overdosed on and died, according to a story at jsonline.com.
The defendant will next be in court July 15 for her preliminary hearing. Online court records do not indicate yet if Waukesha officials will seek extradition.
