Two women sustained substantial injuries in a two-car crash that happened at 6:47 p.m. Thursday in the 6100 block of Highway 31.

A 55-year-old woman driving a GMC Sonoma Pick-up truck swerved into oncoming traffic and struck an Audi station wagon. The 42-year-old woman driving the Audi traveling northbound on Highway 31, said Lt. Gary Larsen, of the Caledonia Police Department

“She said she swerved to avoid hitting a possum,” Larsen said.

Both women were taken to Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints. The 55-year-old woman was cited for operating left of center.
