RACINE COUNTY, WI — Andrew Cegielski is no longer running to take Robin Vos’ seat in the new 33rd Assembly District.

He made the announcement Tues., June 11.

Vos (R-Rochester) is the Speaker of the Assembly. He was elected in 2004 to represent what was the 63rd Assembly District, and he was elected Speaker in 2013.

Cegielski cites ‘circumstances beyond his control’

Without going into detail, Cegielski told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel he ended his campaign because of “circumstances beyond his control.”

He has not yet responded to requests for comment via email and voicemail.

Racine County Eye will update this story when/if Cegielski responds.

Vos responds to Cegielski announcement

In a statement sent to media, Vos responded to the news that he will not face a August primary.

“I wish him well and hope that whatever the personal circumstances are that drove his decision, it will now afford him the time and attention he needs to attend to them,” Vos wrote.

While Vos won’t have to win a primary race heading into November, he does have both an independent and a Democratic opponent.

Sturtevant resident Kelly Clark is running as in independent, and former Lake Geneva Mayor Alan Kupsik, who is running as a Democrat.

Vos his campaign plan is not changing.

“I will spend this summer knocking on every door, getting to know the new voters in Walworth County and sharing with them my vision for the future as well as my solidly conservative record so that we can continue to lead the opposition to the liberal ideas Democrats are trying to impose on Wisconsin,” his statement concludes.
