Obituary for Terri Lyn Barranco

September 4, 1956 — June 7, 2024

With her loving husband by her side, Terri Lyn Barranco, 67, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024, two days after celebrating their 48th wedding anniversary. She fought breast cancer for over 13 years, never giving in or forgetting to smile.

She was born in Racine, Sept. 4, 1956, the daughter of Jerome and Shirley (née Heimes) Helding.

Terri was a graduate of Wm. Horlick High School, “Class of 1974.” On June 5, 1976, Terri was united in marriage to Mark Barranco. She was employed by Getty’s-Elwood for 49 years until her retirement in 2023. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she served on various projects and committees.

Terri was a member of Pink Paddling Power; she enjoyed the camaraderie and friendship, dragon boat racing, both locally and internationally. She loved traveling with her husband, especially Surf City USA, Huntington Beach, Calif.

Terri was known and loved by all for her brilliant smile and way of welcoming everyone she met.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend to all and will be dearly missed by her husband, Mark; sons, Joseph (Madelyn) Barranco, Anthony Barranco; grandchildren, Taryn Barranco-Bazan, Nora, Hazel and Astrid Barranco; mother, Shirley Meyer; siblings, Greg Helding (Joanie Celeste), Mike (Esther) Helding, Karen Schuler, Gary (Samantha) Helding; in-laws, Joanne Barranco, Carol (Bill) Haigh; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jerome; sister-in-law, Patti Robash; stepfather, Donavan Meyer; father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Charlotte Barranco.

Services

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Terri Lyn Barranco’s life will be held at  11 a.m. on June 17, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., with Rev. Steve Varghese officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet for visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. on June 16 at Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until time of Mass on June 17 at the church.

Memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to Pink Paddling Power have been suggested.

A very special thank you to Dr. Michael Mullane, “The Best Dr. in the World” according to Terri, Kelly Konesco N.P. and all the nurses and staff at Aurora Cancer Center in Racine.

Also thank you to special friends, Gary and Sue Guttenburg, Cheryl Crawford, Joy Lippmann, Hedy Pflugrad, Karen Severson, Lu Ornales and all of her Pink Paddling sisters for their love and support of not only Terri, but her husband Mark.
