Perry created a bond with his love for music at just a young age, which led to him performing music. In fact, he was often asked to perform with many different bands. He then became the founder of his own band, Transition, in the 1970s. You could find him playing his harmonica any day of the week because it was always in his pocket.

He also had an avid passion for fishing, and his favorite fishing buddy was his late Uncle Dennis. One thing about Perry was the love he had for his family. He was the happiest when he was in the company of his family, and he was almost always the last one to exit family gatherings.

Perry Anthony Gandy departed his life on June 14, 2024. He leaves to cherish his memories his son, Perreese Cottingham; daughters, Joyce and Jamie Gandy; grandchildren, Joseph Balderas, Perreese Cottingham Jr. (Rice Lake, Wis.), Brinnae Gandy (Gary, Ind.), Heaven Cottingham, Montana Reese Cottingham (Tipton, Calif.), Makaveli Cottingham, Wynter Cottingham and Aubree Smith; as well as four great-grandchildren.

Also surviving him are siblings, Joy (Ocelia) Simpson, Donnie (Theresa) Gandy, Danny Gandy, Byron (Carol) Gandy, Andre Gandy, Carolyn Cobbs, Danielle Gandy Dunn, Sean (Lena) Gandy, and Pamela (Kerry) Johnson; a very special aunt, Florence Barker; and a host of nieces, nephews and other dear family members; special friends, Lonnie Riley, Jim Kapla, Mary Ward, and Gail Black; as well as a special extended family, the Berryhills.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and Aubrey Gandy; grandparents, Louise McCreary and Aubrey Gandy, Sr.; brothers, Corthal McGee, Curtis Harris, and sister, Anita Ashley.
