RACINE — Hospice Alliance’s inaugural Root River Poker Run will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on July 20 along the city’s lakefront, with an awards ceremony for best and worst poker hands beginning at 5 p.m. at Riverside Marina Clubhouse, 950 Erie St.

Proceeds of this event will go toward Hospice Alliance’s mission “to ‘add life to days’ and continue providing exceptional care and supportive services to all, regardless of ability to pay,” according to a June 26 press release.

“Walk, run, drive, kayak, canoe or dinghy to stops along the lakefront to draw your poker card and receive a stamp,” the press release reads.

There are seven stamps in total to collect at seven different stops, which can be visited in any order.

  • Reefpoint Brew House (at Reefpoint Marina, 2 Christopher Columbus Causeway)
  • Corner House Tiki Bar (at Corner House on the Lake, 207 Gas Light Circle)
  • Andiamo Boat (no location information available)
  • Gaslight Party Docks (at Gaslight Pointe, 217 Gas Light Circle)
  • Chartroom Restaurant Docks (at Chartroom Restaurant, 209 Dodge St.)
  • Harbor Lite Yacht Club (at 559 State St.)

The rules of the Root River Poker Run

Check-in and day-of registration begins at 1 p.m. at Riverside Marina. Participants must start at 2 p.m. and finish the Root River Poker Run no later than 4 p.m.

When arriving at a stop, participants have to be ready to draw their card. All stamped poker cards must be brought back to Riverside Marina Clubhouse by 4:30 p.m. At 5 p.m., there will be food, music, raffles and an awards ceremony.

Food will be catered by Joey’s Yardarm, according to the Root River Poker Run’s website.

“Prizes for 1st, and 2nd best poker hand, and a prize for the worst hand will be awarded,” the press release reads.

How to register

Pre-registering for the Root River Poker Run is recommended, but not required. Those who pre-register through July 12 receive the discounted fee of $25. Day-of registration will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Riverside Marina Clubhouse. Registration after July 12, including the day of, will cost $30.

“Registration includes a poker card and an afterparty meal for one attendee,” the press release reads. “Extra poker cards are available for $10 each.”
