Our beloved Myrl M Barnes, 89, passed away with his family at his side, at Kenosha Estates, on November 29th 2017. Myrl was born in Atkinson, Nebraska on October 27th, 1928 to the late George and Eva Barnes.

In 1942, Myrl moved with his family to Racine and attended Racine schools. He was employed as a young man with Bauman Coal Company and D.P. Wigley Company. On June 30th, 1951, he was united in marriage to Katherine A. Larsen. Following their marriage, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and deployed to Korea where he was promoted to Sergeant, and honorably discharged in 1953. Further years of employment were with Pugh Oil Co, and Sam Azarian Construction Co, with his longtime friend and schoolmate. He retired from Cape Construction in 1990. His hobbies varied with the love of western movies, music, dancing, playing cards, but most of all, enjoying time spent with his family.

Survivors include his children, daughter, Robin (Harold) Benson, son, Myrl W. Barnes; sisters, Evadine (David) Ostergaard and Georgia Barnes; grandchildren, Kathryn, William, Jane, and Brian; seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Myrl was also preceded in death by his wife Katherine, two daughters Penny and Penny Rae, great grandson, Christopher; brother, Bernard; sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Wm. Therkelsen; and two nephews Rodney and William.

Funeral services will be held the Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home on Saturday at 11 a.m.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow the service at West Lawn Memorial Park.

The family wishes to give special thanks to care givers and dear friends, Shirley Horvath, Dawn Lotharius and staff of Kenosha Estates for their love and compassionate care.

Myrl’s kindness, generosity and love for his family and friends will be dearly missed.
