The St. Catherine’s Angels started off the game on Wednesday, Jan. 24, by attacking Prairie School with their ruthless press defense, utilizing a pass-heavy offense that opened up shots high and low for star players Lamont Hamilton and Da’Ron Robinson.

Although Prairie’s zone defense helped to keep up with St. Catherine’s high-passing offense, knocking down clutch shots wasn’t enough due to a lack of rebounding and many second-chance opportunities for St. Catherine’s.

At the start of the second half, Prairie’s defense stayed constant. The difference from the first half is they were able to level the rebound differential, lessening St. Catherine’s second-chance points. Combining the rebound differential, lack of second-chance opportunities, and many missed shots, Prairie School was able to tie the game 35 to 35 with 5 minutes and 47 seconds left, thanks to LaTrevion Fenderson’s ability to drive in the lane and make contested shots.

Undoubtedly Prairie’s push wasn’t enough to take the lead. In the end, St. Catherines walked away with a victory of 36-49.

“We couldn’t hit a three to save our lives, and we could have rebounded the ball better,” said team small forward Fenderson regarding the Prairie School team as a whole.

St. Catherine’s Guard Lamont Hamilton touched on what he and his team could have done better during the game.

“Getting back on defense, and stopping the ball before they make it to the hoop,” Hamilton said.
